History of  traditional Plum Christmas Cake:

Beyond that, Christmas cake has a rich history of its own. You would be surprised to know that today what we enjoy as a cake was once a thick meaty porridge.

This meal was made with an inter mix of dried fruits on Christmas Eve as a hearty treat after the long day of fasting for religious purposes. At that time, sugar and dried fruits were scarce and were barely used.

But by the 18th century with sugar more commonly found in house pantries, the original components of meat, oatmeal, vegetables, and whole wheat began to be used in a decreasing amount and furthermore skipped entirely.

Finally, when ovens became common in middle-class homes, a baked Christmas cake also started being prepared in the households. With regional differences.

The preparation and presentation stayed unique everywhere. But Christmas cakes came out to be a combination of all the wonderful things in the pantry, such as spices, dried fruits, and spirits.

This tradition and history of Traditional Plum Christmas cakes give them such a significance when we enjoy them today.
