Narendra Hirwani was born on 18 October 1968 in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh where his father owns the business of brick kiln.

His early childhood studies were in Gorakhpur, due to his interest in cricket since childhood, he moved to Lucknow where he was admitted to Guru Gobind Singh Sports College located on Kursi Road, Lucknow.

While staying in the hostel here, he studied and gained expertise in cricket.

After completing his studies from Lucknow, he shifted to Bhopal city of Madhya Pradesh, and at the age of 16, he was selected in the team of Madhya Pradesh and made his debut in first-class cricket.
